In Memory of DANIEL RICHARD GARCIA
Fellow Bogey’s, we have lost one of our members to pancreatic cancer this last month.  Dan was the brother of Ben Alonzo and Uncle to Rod Alonzo. The following is an excerpt from his obituary…..

“Gunny” Richard passed surrounded by family and friends. He was a native of Modesto, and attended Modesto High School. He entered the military serving nine years in the United States Navy and 11 years in the United States Marine Corps with two tours in Vietnam. He also boxed for the Navy and Marine Corps winning multiple golden glove championships.  Dan returned to Modesto after the military and became a building inspector for Stanislaus County. Eventually he relocated to the Maryland/ D.C. area and worked for the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority into the mid 90's. He retired to Berkeley Springs, West Virginia and served as Commander of the Alderton Dawson Post 60 American Legion.  Throughout his life Dan was always active.  He started the Modesto Marine Corps League and the Racquetball League at the Sportsmen of Stanislaus Club. He loved playing golf with Bogeys Unlimited, enjoyed reading and traveling in his motor home.
